The Decorah boys tennis team battled opponents on opposite ends of the spectrum earlier this week, producing one win.

Tough night
Monday the Vikings battled one of the best teams in the state at Linn-Mar.
Unfortunately, Decorah lost 9-0.
“We knew going in that their top three were head and shoulders above us. We also had hopes our depth could challenge the bottom of their order, which did happen. We challenged, winning many games, just not matches. If only we had won the match tie-breakers. Even at one and two singles, where we didn’t win a game, if you walked up and watched a few points you would say, ‘wow this is a good hitting,’” said Coach Reg Laursen.
“The guys knew it was an uphill battle but still welcomed the challenge and held up well psychologically. We tried to focus on the process of trying to win the next point as opposed to the overall score. We hoped to grow and improve through this match. We needed preparation to face heavy hitters like we may face at Districts. I think we succeeded.”
Will Yahr, Shaun Dehning, Miles Smith, Ross Gentry, Paul Fadness, Zach Chapman, McKinley Eide, Henry Zheng, Kevin Blakesly, James Lee and Chris Miculinich competed in JV, winning two matches.
