The Turkey Valley boys and girls track teams made the most of their chances Friday night at Edgewood-Colesburg, qualifying 15 events to the state tournament.
The boys finished first at the state qualifying meet for a second year in a row, obtaining 105 points. The Trojans scored in 16 of 18 events.
The girls finished third in team standings with 97 points.
The state track meet runs Thursday through Saturday, May 16-18, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
In Class 1A, the top performance in each event at all sites throughout the state automatically qualifies for the state meet. The next 12 best times/distances from across the state also advance to the state meet. In total, there are 24 entries per event.
The boys team will have seven events running at state, including four individual events and three relays.
Sophomore Ryan Izer made it two-for-two in his individual events. He took the 3,200-meter title with a time of 10:34.22. It's his second straight year advancing in this event. In 2012 he was 15th at state. His time seeds him at 10th. In addition, Izer qualified in the 1,600-meter run. He finished third at the state qualifying meet with a time of 4:46.72. He is seeded eighth in this event.
