It hasn't exactly been a spring conducive to soccer; however, the Decorah girls soccer team is making the most of it.
With just three games under their belts and several others cancelled due to weather, the Vikings are ready to get the season fully under way and challenge for a spot at the state tournament.
Looking to put together the strongest team possible is Head Coach Julie Shockey. This is Shockey's 10th year as the head coach and 11th overall with the program. She will be assisted by Lilly Jensen, who has been with the team for three years.
A solid 2012 year
With 13 returning letter winners and six seniors, the 2012 squad was ready to make some noise in Northeast Iowa. Going 9-5 through the regular season, the Vikings faced a challenge in first-round playoff opponent Iowa Falls-Alden. The Vikes rose to the challenge, winning 2-0 to get a rematch with Class 2A No. 12 Waverly-Shell Rock. The end came too soon for Decorah as the Go-Hawks advanced on a 6-0 win.
