Decorah was crowned the unofficial champion of Winneshiek County as the Vikings boys and girls golf teams defeated South Winn and Turkey Valley at Silvercrest Golf Course in Decorah Tuesday.
Both the varsity boys and girls teams from Decorah posted the lowest scores.
Each school brought eight linksters from each of the boys and girls teams. The top four scores counted for varsity, with the next four as JV.

The Vikings posted a 154 to win the meet. South Winn was just eight strokes behind with 162. Turkey Valley shot a 196.
Medalist of the meet was Decorah’s Sam Sacquitne with a par-36. Runner-up was Decorah’s Bryce Pierce, who carded a 37.
Reid Drenth shot a 40 while both Derek Weis and Reese Drenth shot 41s.
“The team has been making steady improvement, and different players are contributing,” said DHS Coach Rich Gaard.
South Winn was led by Trevor Schweinefus and Logan Schweinefus, who both shot 39s. Nathan Winter and Anthony Emanuel ended up with 42s.
Turkey Valley was led by Riley Meirick, who had a 47. Tom Reicks toured the course in 49 strokes while Jacob Hackman and Ryan Busta both had 50s.
“I think the TV boys were a little bit intimidated today, as both the Decorah and South Winn programs are where we hope to be at the end of the season. Coach Gaard of Decorah is a Hall of Fame coach in everyone’s book, and Warrior coaches Doug Schweinefus and Paul Youngblut do a great job as well,” said TV Coach John Reicks. “We need to get tougher mentally and improve our course management skills from tee to green to be successful.”
