A few raindrops couldn’t stop the Decorah early bird track meet Monday night as six area teams got the outdoor season under way.
The host Vikings won the meet with 130 points. South Winn came in fourth with 78 points.
In total, the two teams combined for 12 gold medals.

Eight for the Vikes
Decorah claimed eight gold medals Monday, with four coming in the relays and four as individuals.
First up for the relays was the 4x800. Battling back and forth with South Winn, the Viking quartet of Cole Svestka, Collin Nimrod, Bryce Hosting and Isaac Luzum pulled it out in the final leg, winning in 8:42.15.
Just one event later, the shuttle hurdle relay of Holt Johansen, Jon Elsbernd, Bryton Meyer and Mikhail Suvorov clocked in at 1:01.43, taking first by over one second.
Decorah’s weightmen took the title in the 4x100 relay. Matthew Whittle, Tim Winter, Carter Zidlicky and Ben Dugger broke the tape in 52.72 seconds.
In the final event of the night, Cole Roher, Aaron Syverson, Nimrod and Svestka came down the final stretch victorious in a time of 3:39.83.
