Ice couldn't stop the Dubuque Senior boys swim team from traveling to Decorah for the only Viking home swim meet of the season Friday night.

It may have started 30 minutes late, but it was worth the wait for swim fans.

Decorah won six of the 11 events on the night to win the meet 89 to 81. Vinton-Shellsburg and Waterloo-West had planned to compete at the Luther Aquatics Center but could not make it due to icy conditions.

First place

Decorah had two relays and four individual events claim the gold.

Senior Dalton Matt was a two-time champion. He first took the 50-yard freestyle title. He touched the wall in 23.32 seconds. Vikings Isaac Sauer and Cole Svestka completed the sweep for the home team. Sauer came in second in 24.37 seconds while Svestka earned third in 24.39 seconds.

Matt was back two events later in the 100-yard freestyle. This time he posted splits of 25.81 seconds and 28.15 to take first in 53.96 seconds.

Nolan Heffern took care of the 200-yard freestyle. With times of 26.62, 30.39, 31.94 and 31.48, Heffern took first in 2:00.43, winning by 0.83 seconds.

Jerod Heying was the final Decorah champion. In the 100-yard backstroke, Heying had times of 31.81 and 32.59 to take the gold in 1:04.40, a win by nearly four seconds.
