Over a year ago, the Vikings had their season end in the substate round to Dubuque Wahlert 5-2.
Since then, it’s been a waiting game to get a second chance.
All that changed Saturday when the Vikings breezed past Aplington-Parkersburg in the first round of substate and took care of Wahlert in the finals to advance to state for the first time since 2001.
Decorah now is one of the final four teams in Class 1A, along with Boone, Maharishi and Fort Dodge St. Edmond. Competition is Tuesday, June 3, in Des Moines.
In addition, the doubles teams of C.J. Cliff/Gable Lonning and Caleb Ulring/Karl Sand will compete in the doubles tournament this weekend in Waterloo, Friday and Saturday, May 30-31.
