The Decorah swim team held its own Saturday, competing against the big schools at the Cougar Invite, held at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Some of the largest schools from across the state traveled to the meet. Cedar Falls, took the team title, securing 496 points. Decorah held strong, coming in seventh with 106 points. All the teams that finished ahead of Decorah would be considered 4A schools in other sports.

Decorah had four entries finish in the top-10. The best place came from the 200-yard freestyle relay "A" team. Katie Hagensick, Monica Tappe, Taylor Martinek and Katelyn Yee combined to finish sixth in 1:46.41. They were just five seconds behind the first-place team.

Martinek, a junior, came back in the next event to finish in the top-10. She posted splits of 31.85 and 33.28 in the 100-yard backstroke to take seventh in 1:05.13. She was just 0.03 seconds from sixth and less than five seconds from first.
