The dream is still alive for Decorah native Brett Van Sloten.
Van Sloten, who was signed by the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL in May, has made the 90-man roster following the first mini-camp.
Back in Decorah for a few weeks of rest and relaxation, Van Sloten spoke exclusively with Decorah Newspapers last week, talking about his experience in the National Football League.

His summer so far
Van Sloten was a two-year starter at offensive tackle for the University of Iowa, where he was named a permanent team captain as a fifth-year senior. Although he didn’t hear his name called during the May NFL draft, he was signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens. Within a few hours, he left the Midwest for Baltimore, where he attended an intensive six-week camp.
“It’s been a good experience,” he said. “It’s different from college in that it’s definitely a business. I’m getting to see a different side of football I haven’t seen before.”
