Two Luther College athletes were honored this week by the conference.
Tyler Wedemeier was named the men's basketball player of the week while David Carius was named the men's swimming and diving athlete of the week.
Wedemeier, a senior center from Westgate, averaged 16.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as the Norse went 2-1 during the week to stay atop the Iowa Conference standings. He scored 15 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and blocked four shots in a 76-73 loss at Dubuque on Jan. 21, scoring his 1,000th career point during the contest. In a 75-61 win over Wartburg Jan. 23, Wedemeier tallied 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting and had six rebounds. He closed the week with a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double with three blocks as the Norse stopped Dubuque 60-55 Jan. 26 to avenge their lone league loss. He is the son of Kevin and Kenda Wedemeier.
Carius, a freshman from Coal Valley, Ill., was involved in three first-place finishes in a 130-70 dual victory over Coe. He won the 200 IM (2:08.63) and 100 butterfly (56.64) and swam on a 200 freestyle relay (1:32.83) that touched the wall two seconds clear of the field but was exhibitioned. He is the son of Mark and Siri Carius.
