Three Luther athletes have been recognized for their performances by the Iowa Athletic Conference.

Swimmers Zoe Johnson and Jason Orvis were named the male and female athletes of the week, respectively, while Tyler Wedemeier was named the men's basketball player of the week.

Orvis, a freshman from Decorah, competed in seven events, winning three, while leading Luther to a runner-up finish at the Liberal Arts Championships. He won the 100 backstroke (52.73) and 200 backstroke (1:55.75) and also swam on Luther's winning 200 free relay (1:26.02). Orvis also took second in the 400 medley relay (3:30.94) and was third in the 50 freestyle (21.62), 400 freestyle relay (3:10.93) and 800 freestyle relay (7:04.79). He is the son of Brad and Deb Orvis.

Johnson, a freshman from Minnestrista, Minn., was named the Diver of the Meet at the Liberal Arts Championships after sweeping the 1- and 3-meter crowns. She set a school record on the 1-meter board with 429.60 points and qualified for the NCAA Division III regional in San Antonio March 1-2. Johnson won the 3-meter title with 398.80 points. The Norse won their seventh consecutive Liberal Arts title. She is the daughter of Steve and Chris Johnson.

Wedemeier, a senior center from Westgate, averaged 16.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks while leading the Norse to two victories last week and a share of the program's second Iowa Conference title in three years. He scored 21 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and had six blocks in a 60-54 win over Coe Feb. 13, then closed out the regular season with a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double in a 78-61 win over Wartburg Feb. 16. Wedemeier enters the IIAC tournament with double-doubles in five consecutive games. He is the son of Kevin and Kenda Wedemeier.
