Three Luther athletes were named athletes of the week this week by the Iowa Athletic Conference.

Becca Girvan was named the female athlete of the week, Andrew Peter the male athlete of the week and Carli Radil the softball position player of the week.

Girvan, a junior pitcher from Maple Grove, Minn., pitched Luther to its third IIAC Tournament title in the last four years with three complete-game victories over the weekend. She shut out Buena Vista in the first round, allowing only one hit and walking one while striking out nine in a 9-0, five-inning victory. In Luther's 9-3 semifinal win over Central, she allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Girvan capped the week by allowing two runs on five hits and striking out 11 in a 5-2 win over Coe in the championship game. Girvan is the daughter of Gwen and Dan Girvan

Peter, a junior from Decorah, fired rounds of 72-68 to capture medalist and IIAC Golfer of the Year honors at the 2013 Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championships. Entering the final round with a one-stroke lead, he birdied two holes on each nine for matching 34s and a bogey-free four-under 68. Peter finished with a 72-hole total of 293 to win by three strokes over Central's Justin Livingston (296). Peter is the first Norse IIAC Men's Golf MVP since Scott Theriault in 2000. He is the son of Tim and Sandra Peter.

Radil, a freshman first baseman from Chanhassen, Minn., hit .375 with a 1.12 slugging percentage for Luther in the Iowa Conference tournament. While only 3-for-8, two of her hits were home runs in a 9-3 Norse win over Central in the semifinal game. She drove in three against the Dutch. She also had a hit, drove in two and scored a run in Luther's 9-0 first-round win over Buena Vista. She is the daughter of Terry and Karen Radil.
