Luther College swimmer Clare Slagel, a 2012 graduate of Dubuque Hempstead High School, has qualified for the 2013 NCAA III National Swimming and Diving Championships.
Slagel qualified in both the 100 and 200 backstroke and will also swim the 500 freestyle for her bonus event. The NCAA III National Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Conroe Natatorium, Shenandoah, Texas, March 20-23.
Slagel will enter the national championships having posted the seventh fastest time in Division III in the 100 backstroke (55.70) and eighth fastest time in the 200 backstroke (2:01.38). The A finalist (top-8) will earn All-America honors, while the B finalists (next 8) will earn honorable mention All-America honors.
Slagel will begin the national championships competing in the 500 freestyle Wednesday, March 20. Friday, March 22, she will compete in the 100 backstroke, and will wrap up the national championships Saturday, March 23, competing in the 200 backstroke. Prelims take place in the mornings, followed by the B and A finals in the evening sessions.
Slagel is the daughter of Daniel and Karen Slagel of Dubuque.
