The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced Luther College junior James Garcia-Prats has been named a 2012 College Division Scholar All-America.
Garcia-Prats, a 2010 graduate of Strake Jesuit High School, Houston, Texas, was a second team selection. The NSCAA annually awards a first, second and third Scholar All-America team that consists of 11 players on each team. An NSCAA committee selects the honorees after earning Scholar All-Region honors.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA member; have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more then 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student; and must submit an official copy of a certified transcript.
Garcia-Prats, a 2011 second-team NSCAA All-America and two-time all-Iowa Conference and all-North Region honoree, is a sociology major with a grade point average of 3.61.
Garcia-Prats is the son of Joe and Cathy Garcia-Prats of Houston, Texas.
