The Buena Vista football team (2-6, 2-3 IIAC) pulled off a win in Decorah, knocking off Luther (2-6, 1-4 IIAC) 37-14 Saturday.

Beavers scored six of the nine times they had the football in the first half and led 34-0 at the midway point. Thirteen of the Beavers' points were the result of three of Luther's six fumbles lost for the afternoon.

Playing without starting quarterback JJ Sirios, who was injured last week, the Norse offensive unit had a few growing pains early but improved throughout the contest. Dylan Smallwood took over the play calling duties midway through the second quarter and saw the most significant time of his career. He led the Norse to two scores in the fourth frame. Smallwood connected on a 16-yard pass to Alex Hain, for his first collegiate touchdown pass, with 11:42 left in the fourth. Ten minutes later, he scored his first collegiate rushing touchdown, a 14-yard scamper up the middle with 1:40 remaining in the game.

The Norse tallied 235 yards on the ground, led by Josh Vos with 72. Vos enters the final two games of the season with 682 yards for the season. Smallwood and Christian Moore both had career highs of 51 and 43 yards respectively.

Defensively, the Norse held the Beavers rushing attack to 77 yards. Matt Scheidle was credited with a game-high 12 tackles. Matt Larson and Rich Vickers both had eight, while Colin White and Thomas Carpenter both had six. White and Keaton Palo were both credited with a sack.

Luther travels to Coe College Saturday for a noon kickoff.
