The Luther softball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA III Softball Championship by defeating Anderson University (Ind.) 8-1 Friday afternoon in Eau Claire, Wis.

Kelsey Weindruch got things going for the Norse in the top of the third with a three-run home run to left-center field. Weindruch also drove in two runs with a single to left during Luther's five-run fifth.

The Norse tallied 11 hits off the Anderson pitching staff. Carli Radil, Morgan Franklin and Miranda McCay all had two hits.

Becca Girvan improved to 23-5 in the circle. Girvan allowed one run on six hits, walked one and stuckout seven.

The Norse will face SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Cortland defeated Salisbury (Md.) 2-1 in the opening game of the tournament.
