Four Luther College athletes were named athletes of the week by the Iowa Athletic Conference, including Tricia Serres being named the women's athlete of the week.

Serres, a sophomore from Plattville, Wis., won the women's individual title at the 2013 Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday at Pella. She covered the 6-kilometer course in 21:29.3, winning by over a minute over runner-up Haddie Vawter of Wartburg (22:31.8). Serres captured her second all-conference honor after finishing third a year ago. She is the ninth Luther runner to win the IIAC women's individual title, accounting for 16 total titles.

Decorah native Martin Stalberger was named the men's offensive soccer player of the week. The junior defender scored both of Luther's goals last week as the Norse posted a pair of 1-0 shutouts. The first came on a rebound with five seconds remaining in the second overtime against Wartburg Oct. 29 to give the Norse a share of the Iowa Conference regular-season title. The second came off a header in the first half of Luther's IIAC Tournament first-round win over Central.

Tommy Breen, a sophomore goalkeeper from Cary, Ill., was named the defensive men's soccer player of the week. Breen posted his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season as the Norse posted 1-0 victories over Wartburg and Central. The Wartburg win secured a share of the Iowa Conference title. He stopped a pair of penalty kick to preserve the victory against Central. Breen made five saves in both matches.

Sophomore Clare Slagel was named the women's swimming and diving athlete of the week. The Dubuque native was involved in three of Luther's four first-place finishes in a 147-96 loss at Wisconsin-Whitewater. She won the 200 freestyle (1:58.20) by two seconds and the 100 backstroke (59.14) by three seconds and also swam on Luther's winning 200 medley relay (1:50.20).
