Several Luther College softball players were honored by the conference by being named to the Iowa Athletic Conference all-conference team.
Three were named to the first team. Senior Elisa Smith, a second baseman from Shoreview, Minn., earned her first all-conference honor. Shari Huber won her third all-conference honor. The senior outfielder from Eldridge, was named first team in 2012 and honorable mention in 2011. Freshman outfielder Miranda McCay earned her first all-IIAC honor. She is from Waukee.
Second team honors went to Becca Girvan and Morgan Franklin. Girvan, a junior pitcher from Maple Grove, Minn., was a 2012 IIAC pitcher of the year, earned first-team honors in 2012 and was a second team honoree in 2011. Morgan Franklin, a senior at third base from Mitchellville, earned her first all-conference honor.
Huber named all-tournament
Luther senior outfielder Shari Huber was named to the 2013 NCAA III Softball Championships all-tournament team.
Huber, Luther's lead-off hitter, batted .429 (3-7) with one RBI and one run scored during the tournament. She also walked twice and had an on-base percentage of .600, the highest on-base percentage of any of the 12 players selected to the all-tournament team.
Huber wrapped up her career with her name etched all over the Luther record books. She ranks first all-time for hits (206) and runs scored (167), ranks third for batting average (.398) and doubles (35), fourth for at-bats (517) and sixth for triples (10).
A 2009 graduate of North Scott High School, Huber is the daughter of Barry and Lisa Huber of Eldridge.
