Men's soccer - Five Norse men's soccer players have been recognized on the 2012 All-Iowa Conference team.

For the second time in as many years, James Garcia-Prats (Houston, Texas) was a first team honoree. Garcia-Prats, a junior midfielder, was credited with three goals and three assists for a total of nine points.

Second team honors were presented to senior defender Austin Walther (Freeport, Ill.), senior midfielder Saul Rosales (Maplewood, Minn.) and junior forward Brock Arend (Decorah).

Walther, a first-team honoree last season, started 15 matches for the Norse and was credited with one goal. He also helped the Norse defensive unit produce a goals-against-average of 0.85 that included nine shutouts.

Rosales had his best season in a Norse uniform. He started all 18 matches and led the team in scoring. He drove in a team best eight goals and dished out four assists for 20 points.

Arend, a first-team honoree a year ago, finished third on the team in scoring. Arend tallied five goals and one assist for 11 points. He also finished tied for the team lead with Jon Gednalske with two game-winning goals.

Gednalske, a freshman forward from Sioux Falls, S.D., was named honorable mention. Gednalske finished second on the team in total points with 13. He scored five goals and dished out three assists.



Women's soccer - Maggie Herrity (Maple Grove, Minn.), Erin Wilson (North Liberty) and Elly Arend (Decorah) have been named second team all-conference from the Luther women's soccer team.

Herrity, a senior midfielder, had her best season in a Norse uniform. She led the team in scoring, producing five goals and six assists for a total of 16 points.

Arend, a sophomore forward, finished third on the team with 10 points, thanks to four goals and two assists. This is the second time in as many seasons she has been named to the all-conference team. Last year she was a first team selection.

Wilson, a sophomore defender, was an honorable mention selection last season. Wilson led the Norse defenders in scoring driving in three goals. She also helped the Norse to four shutouts during the 2012 campaign.
