Dear Editor:

Bob Watson said a lot of things in last Thursday's paper in "Symbols are symbols, but humans have value."

I first met Bob in the pages of this newspaper in articles I read in the past. Many I agreed with and even wrote him a letter or two in support of his ideas. In the last few years, I have gotten to know Bob personally and call him a friend.

We both believe in the importance of human beings. We both know that symbols can be misused and miss the point of the true value of human beings.

As a churchman, I am fully aware that many people who call themselves Christians use Christian symbols but do not use them in support of true humanity.

Thanks, Bob, for your writing last week showing again that you are a true humanitarian.
