This is an important year when voters of Winneshiek County can vote for their candidates of choice for the local, state and national seats. However, there is another way that you have to make your voice heard -- letters to these representatives and to the editor of the Decorah Newspapers.
The staff of the Center for Peace and Justice can provide you resource and educational materials on a myriad of important issues. For example, at the national level issues such as a ban on assault weapons, cuts in our bloated defense budget, elimination of special rendition (torture) centers, disenfranchisement of voters by the new voter ID cards, discrimination of gays and lesbians, new programs to create jobs and funding of the food stamp program. We have some hints that you might follow so that your letter will have a better chance of being recognized. You may also write a letter concerning any topic of interest to you.
The best day to do this would be on the third Friday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. But feel free to stop in to see us any time at our office at 119 Winnebago Street, Decorah, Iowa, or telephone us at 382-5337. We are open Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are looking forward to helping you exercise a fundamental democratic right.
