Victor Timp, 91, of Calmar, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah. Mass Of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Lectors were Kerri Hammersland, Victoria Timp and Kristi Holien. Mass servers were Hunter and Jaron Todd and Nickolas Holien. Offertory giftbearers were Ashlyn Heins, Reed Backes and Braiden Todd. Pianist was Annette Walter. The St. Aloysius Choir sang "Here I am, Lord," "Taste and See," "Be Not Afraid" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Casketbearers were Kenny Timp, Marty Timp, Harvey Timp, Randy Timp, Lester Timp and Steven Timp. Honorary casketbearers were Victor's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Military rites at the graveside were by Halverson - Giesen American Legion Post No. 266, Calmar. Interment was at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Arrangements were handled by Schluter - Balik Funeral Home French Chapel, Calmar.
Victor Albert Timp was born Nov. 9, 1922, the son of William and Louise (Wenthold) Timp north of Calmar. Victor attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and then worked for area farmers until he was drafted in to World War II. He served in the US Army from 1944-47. Victor married Bea Lensing May 10, 1949, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. Together they farmed near Calmar for many years, until they retired and moved west of Calmar in 1980. In 2009, Victor entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home. Victor enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching the grandchildren, doing farm work and helping on the farm. Victor was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Halverson Giesen American Legion Post No. 266 and the South Winneshiek Country Club.
Victor is survived by his wife: Bea Timp, Calmar; eight children: Kenny (JoAnn) Timp, Calmar; Betty (George) Backes, Calmar; Marty (Becky) Timp, Calmar; Harvey (Clarice) Timp, Calmar; Randy Timp, Calmar; Lester (Connie Klimesh) Timp, Calmar; Steven (Jolene) Timp, Dyersville; and Rhonda (Curley) Todd, Calmar; grandchildren: Kendra (Shaun) Schmitt, Kerri (Dustin) Hammersland, Victoria (Derek Hinke) Timp, Ashlyn (Chris) Heins, Reed (Dawn Klimesh) Backes, Kayla Timp, Heather Schissel, Heidi (Egan) Colbrese, Michael Schissel, Kristi (Daren) Holien, Ryan (Michelle Rothmeyer) Timp, Nicole Timp, Brenden (Miranda Quandahl) Timp, Tracy (Alex) Howell, Lucas Timp, Jennifer Timp, Matthew Timp, Cami Timp, Wyatt Timp, Hunter Todd, Jaron Todd and Braiden Todd; great-grandchildren: Eva, Brexton, Jaxson, Mason, Kellan, Logan, Emma, Marlee, Kael, Kaden, Riley, Ivy, Nickolas, Keira, Ethin, Noah, Paisley, Jacob, Peyton, Madisyn, Dalton, Caiden and Kylie; one brother, Cletus (Roseanne) Timp, Hiawatha; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Verda (Harlan) Mikota, New Hampton; Mary Mulligan, Humboldt,; Esther Lensing, Calmar; Marian (Norbert) Retterath, Calmar; Esther Timp, Decorah; Helen Timp, Spillville; Bruno Lensing, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Stephen (Arlene) Lensing, Calmar.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise (Wenthold) Timp; four sisters: Gladys (Zeno) Huber, Beatrice (Leo) Schmitt, Agnes (Donald) Schneberger and Rosemary Timp in infancy; two brothers, Lawrence Timp and Alvin Timp; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Roman Lensing, Roche Lensing, Daniel (Dorothy) Lensing and Gordian (Valeria) (Gladys) Lensing.
