Tilman Ellingson, 93, of Decorah, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home. Services are at 11 a.m., Friday, June 21, at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. David Sorenson and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Organist is Kathy Murray. Music includes "My Faith Looks Up to Thee"; "Beautiful Savior," a duet by Karla Soland and Dennis Ellingson; "The Lord's Prayer," a solo by Rev. Bryan Robertson; "Battle Hymn of the Republic"; and "White Cliffs of Dover." Honorary casketbearers are Harold and Verna Lee, Roland Breeser, Leland Breeser, Mary Ellingson, Jim Wittenberg, the Highlandville coffee group, the Tuesday afternoon club and all of the people who assisted Tilman when he was trucking. Casketbearers are Tilman's five grandsons: Ian and J.C. Ellingson Condie, Nicholas Furey and Alex and Max Helmuth. Military rites at graveside are by Helof Holm VFW Chapter No. 1977 at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. The family suggests that any memorials be made to the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah IA 52101, or to the Helof Holm VFW Chapter No. 1977, 104 State St. Decorah, IA, 52101. Tilman is survived by his wife, Lorena Ellingson, Decorah; three daughters: Wanda (John) Condie, Durango, Colo.; and Wendy (Brian) Furey, Minneapolis, Minn.; Wanett (Norm) Helmuth, Iowa City; Ian (Korrine) Condie, Nicholas Furey, Alex and Max Helmuth; one great-granddaughter, Maggie Condie; two sisters, Cheryl Bergan, Decorah; and Sandra Pierce, Sacramento, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Mary Ellingson, Decorah; two brothers-in-law, Calvin Snitker, Waukon and Edward Shelby, Summerton, N.C.; along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Tilman was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Henrietta (Hendrickson) Ellingson; three sisters: Adelaide Shelby, Kathleen Snitker and Esther (Willard) Grotegut; two brothers, Orval Ellingson and Mervin (Lillian) Ellingson.
