Ruth Kovarik, 47, of Spillville, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in memory of Ruth to the Dumont Wellness Center, P.O. Box 341, Dumont, IA 50625. Mass Of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday, Feb. 4), at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Organist is Doris Thompson. Soloist is Dan Silhacek. St. Wenceslaus Choir will sing "Be Not Afraid," "Jesu, Jesu," "You Are Mine," "Goin' Home" and "How Great Thou Art." Lector is Chad Kuboushek. Offertory gifts are by Diane and Evelyn Kovarik. Honorary casketbearers are Chuck Ira, Leonard and Betty Kuboushek, Norbert Kapler, Beulah Shindelar, Carol Ann Schmitz and all the Staff at the Dumont Wellness Center. Casketbearers are Sam Adams, Kenny Jarosh, Jeff Adams, Dale Goettelman, John Novak and Chad Kuboushek. Interment is at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Arrangements are being handled by Balik Funeral Home in Spillville.
Ruth Ann Kovarik was born April 8, 1966, the daughter of Alois and Marcella (Shimek) Kovarik in Decorah. Ruth was a special child and lived at Comp Systems in Charles City from 1971-72. She then attended Abner Hendrickson and Decorah High School, graduating in 1987. She worked with Spectrum Industries in Decorah until 2011. While in Decorah she lived at Opportunity Homes. In May of 2012, she moved to Dumont and lived at the Dumont Wellness Center, where she received loving and excellent care. She always enjoyed meeting new people and remembering birthdays. Ruth loved taking trips to Branson, Mo. and to Nashville, Tenn., and loved country music, especially Conway Twitty. She was an avid baseball fan and went to Cubs, Twins and Brewers games. Ruth enjoyed going out to eat, watching TV and old TV programs, attending mass at St. Benedict's on Saturday afternoon and keeping busy.
Ruth is survived by her mother, Marcella Kovarik, Spillville; one brother, Tom (Diane) Kovarik, Grayslake, Ill.; one nephew, Louis Kovarik; and one niece, Evelyn Kovarik; cousins: Mary Stika, Larry Kovarik, Wesley Kuboushek and Leonard Kuboushek; uncle and aunt, Vic and Betty Shimek.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Alois "Louis" Kovarik, in 2010; her grandparents: Alois F. and Emma Kovarik and Ed and Mary Shimek; aunts and uncles: Rose and Jim Kuboushek, Celia and Willis Brady and Ed and Viola Kovarik.
