Robert R. Weis, 44, of Maquoketa, the son of Richard “Tip” and Vernelle Weis of Decorah, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Private family burial is in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah at a later date. Visitation began at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, one hour before the service, at the church. Robert Richard Weis was born Oct. 31, 1969, in Decorah, the son of Richard “Tip” and Vernelle (Carolan) Weis of Decorah. Robert has lived at Prairie House, a residential health care facility, in Maquoketa, for a number of years. As a special needs person, he has worked at DAC, Inc. in Maquoketa.  

Robert is survived by his parents, Richard “Tip” and Vernelle Weis of Decorah; one sister, Janie (Derek) Loeb of Bend, Ore.; three brothers: John (Beth) Weis of North Liberty, Al (Anita) Weis and Mike Weis of Decorah; seven nieces and nephews: Benjamin, Emily, Adam, Richard, Helen, Henry and Rachel; his maternal grandfather, Sylvester Carolan of Decorah; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Readers were Benjamin Weis and Richard Weis. Eucharistic ministers were Sister Jeanenne “Tubby” Weis, James Weis and Joan Rollins. Gift bearers were Janie Loeb, Emily Weis, Helen Weis and Rachel Weis. Organist was Mary Beth Bouska. Cantor was Cindy Schissel. Hymns were “Be Not Afraid,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” “Seed, Scattered and Sown” and “The Prayer of St. Francis.” Casket bearers were John Weis, Al Weis, Mike Weis, Benjamin Weis, Adam Weis, Richard Weis and Henry Weis.
