Nola Jane Carpenter Blodgett passed away peacefully in her home in Corpus Christi, Texas, Sept. 2, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Nola was born in Cherokee Aug. 16, 1933, to Paul and Elvie Carpenter. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1956 with a degree in occupational therapy. Nola served as president of the Delta Zeta sorority from 1954-55. Nola practiced as an occupational therapist at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City from 1956 to 1959. She married Dr. James Blodgett in 1957, and the two later settled happily in Decorah, where Jim practiced dentistry for 30 years. The couple raised four children: Michael, Lora, Mary and Peter. Nola was active with her children's schools, enjoyed leading her daughters' scout troops and served as a board member for the Decorah Hospital Auxiliary and the Tri-County Mental Health Board. Nola and Jim retired to Corpus Christi in 1993, and split their summers between Texas and White Earth Lake, Minn. Nola dearly loved her friends and enjoyed playing bridge and cooking gourmet meals for them until shortly before she passed.
Nola is survived by her husband, Jim; her children: Michael, Lora, Mary and Peter; and her grandchildren: Angela and Nathan Whalen, Evan and Jared Blodgett, and Isaac and Seth Calvin.
