Maxine M. Yarwood, 79, of Decorah, died Monday morning, Aug. 18, 2014, at her home. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Melissa Bills officiating. Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and Friday beginning at 10 a.m. one hour before the service, at First Lutheran Church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at fjelstul.com. Organist was Marcia Engebretson. Congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “Softly and Tenderly.”

Maxine Margaret (Jackson) Yarwood was born Nov. 11, 1934, at home in rural Mount Sterling, Wis., the daughter of Alfred and Ingeborg (Olson) Jackson. She graduated from Seneca High School in Seneca, Wis. with the class of 1952. Maxine was united in marriage to Charles F. Yarwood April 30, 1960, at Utica Lutheran Church in Mount Sterling, Wis. This union was blessed with five children: Marla, Mark, Brian, Eric and Mary. She was a homemaker in Decorah, raising her family; she then worked part time in the lunchroom at East Side School. She later worked as a certified nursing assistant at Barthell Order of Eastern Star Home in Decorah for a number of years, retiring in 2003. Maxine was a member and very active volunteer at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She enjoyed her Wednesday morning coffee group, liked to read books and the newspaper and keep up with current events; she was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan; and she liked to make Krumkake and bars. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Maxine is survived by her five children: Marla (Curtis) Edler of Waterloo, Mark (Corrine) Yarwood of Waterloo, Brian (Wendi Stein) Yarwood of Hinesburg, Vt., Eric Yarwood (Aaron Persen) of Omaha, Neb. and Mary Yarwood of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Cassandra (Kyle) Frost, Kathryn Yarwood, Charles Yarwood and Sophie Yarwood; and three grea -grandchildren: Cade, Camden and Corbin Frost.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, Oct. 13, 1983; three sisters: Clarice Peterson, Freda Anderson and Evelyn Beinborn; and two brothers, Jerome Jackson and LaVern Jackson.
