Mary Martinson, 92, of Freeport, died peacefully at her home Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, with Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Organist was Kathy Murray. Hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." A private interment was held at the Freeport Cemetery. The family requests memorials in memory of Mary Martinson be given to the Freeport Cemetery Association, 1735 - 254th Street, Decorah, IA, 52101, or the Decorah Public Library, 202 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, 52101.

Mary Margaret Manning was born Dec. 17, 1921, to Ben and Ruby (Wicks) Manning. She attended rural Winneshiek county schools. Mary and Harold Martinson were married in Cresco May 12, 1939. She enjoyed many activities including sewing, crocheting, gardening and long walks in the woods, especially in the spring, hunting wild flowers. Family, friends, neighbors and particularly grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life.

Mary is survived by her three sons: Lynn (Mary Faith) Martinson, Monona; Larry (Martha) Martinson, Decorah; and Eric (Sheryl) Martinson, Chanute Kan.; seven grandchildren: Kim (Craig) Radlof, Connie (Don) Sadler, Jennifer (Mike) Staff, Adam Martinson, Dan Martinson, Elias (Kimberly) Martinson and Emily Martinson; eight great-grandchildren: Kaylee (Devin) Gilbert, Troy Sadler, Laura Sadler, Savannah Staff, Ethan Martinson and Holden Martinson, Alaina Martinson and Brilee Martinson; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Nina (Wicks) Manning; her husband, Harold Martinson, in 1997; her son, Gary Benjamin, in 1953; two sisters, Audrey Greenslade and Pauline Lange; one brother, Reg Manning; step-brother, Kenneth Hartrunf.
