Lorna Schulte, 83, of Postville, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Monticello Nursing Home in Monticello. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 31, from 4:30-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville. There also was a one-hour visitation before mass time at the church Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, with Rev. Greg Bahl as the celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Cemetery, rural Waukon. Schutte-Grau Funeral home in Postville helped the family with the arrangements. She was born Jan. 24, 1931, to Elmer and Laura (Krumme) Kugel in rural Waukon. Lorna graduated from Waukon High School. Lorna was united in marriage with James Schulte Nov. 17, 1962, in Cedar Rapids. Two sons were born to this union, Joseph and Daniel. Lorna was a seamstress when she first came to Postville and she was also a medical transcriptionist at the Decorah Hospital for many years. She was named to the "Postville Women's Bowling Hall of Fame." Lorna loved to listen and dance to music.
Lorna is survived by her two sons, Joseph Schulte of San Francisco, Calif. and Daniel (Lori) Schulte of Anamosa; three grandsons: Nikolaus, Joshua and Kolin Schulte; sisters: Yvonne Brandt of Waukon, Janice Listiak of St. Paul, Minn. and Darlene Gardner of Washington; and her brothers, Ronald Kugel of Libertyville, Ill. and Roy Kugel of Jackson, Tenn.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2012; and her parents.
