La Moyne H. Thompson, 85, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Sorensen and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial was in Freeport Cemetery in Freeport. Visitation wasa 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and Sunday after 1 p.m., one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church. Organist was Kathy Murray. Soloist was Paul Casterton ("Here I Am Lord" and "The Lord's Prayer.") Congregational hymns were "The Old Rugged Cross," "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art." LaMoyne Hans Thompson was born July 28, 1928, at home on a farm in rural Decorah to Albert and Leona (Sorenson) Thompson. He was baptized at Decorah Lutheran Church and confirmed at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church.LaMoyne attended country school at Lincoln No. 1 in rural Ridgeway and then Daubney Country School in Pleasant Township. LaMoyne was united in marriage to Edna Mae Sylvanus June 16, 1951, at Ridgeway Lutheran Church. To this union two sons were born, David and Michael. LaMoyne worked on the family farm, and then at the lumberyard for 38 years (Ingvoldstad Lumber Company, Frudden Lumber Company and Decorah Building Supply). After his retirement, he was on the grounds crew at Oneota Golf Club for 15 years. He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and served as an usher. LaMoyne enjoyed dancing at Matters Ballroom, square dancing, camping, card club and spending time with family and friends.

LaMoyne is survived by his son, Michael (Christine) Thompson of Decorah; daughter-in-law, Diane Thompson of Clarion; sister Geneva (Roland) Halverson of Decorah; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Doug) Cromwell of Queen City, Texas and Sharon (Jerry) Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; brothers-in-law Roger (Ruth) McCreight of Tucson, Ariz. and Ron Dehning of Decorah; five grandchildren: Brandy (Brian Clark) Thompson of Rochester, Minn., Justin (Nikki) Thompson of Sioux City, Jessica (Randall) Sullivan of Decorah, Denise (Tom) Barber of Albertville, Minn. and Erik (Heather Hankins) Drievold of La Crosse, Wis.; and nine great-grandchildren: Lexie Leuenberger (father Jesse), Ashby Clark (father Brian), Kinsley and Kanyon Thompson, Bryan, Rawson, and David Sullivan, Aydian Hankins and Morgan Drievold. La Moyne also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

LaMoyne was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edna, June 3, 2013; his son, David Thompson, April 2, 2010; his parents, Albert and Leona Thompson; his in-laws, William and Fern Sylvanus; brothers-in-law, William Sylvanus and Edward McCreight; and sister-in-law, Kathy Dehning.
