Kurt R. Hockaday, 47, of Marion, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Unity Point Hospital after a short battle with kidney cancer. Burial followed mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Kurt Richard Hockaday was born April 30, 1966, to Richard and Sharron (Hagelberg) Hockaday in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Transamerica for over 14 years and filled his spare time with family activities, golf and bowling, which was one of his long-time passions. He started his career as a star golfer on the Cedar Rapids Washington team. He continued his career as a walk-on for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 1987-1989. He won the Cedar Rapids City Am in 1990 and represented the city on several Ryder cup teams. Kurt was united in marriage to Nancy Lechtenberg Oct. 21, 2006, in Springville.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Tyler (4) and Trey (2); mother, Sharron Hockaday, of Cedar Rapids; brother, Scott Hockaday, of Cambridge; sister, Stacy Hockaday, of Denver, Colo.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Kurt was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Francis and Berniece Hockaday and Garold and Erma Hagelberg.
