Katherine Suchan, 66, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah. Memorials in memory of Katherine Suchan may be sent to Jim Suchan, 10210 Hall Road, Cedar Rapids, IA  52411. Services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, with Deacon Nick Francios of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church officiating. Organist was Brandi Hemesath. Soloist was Cindy Schissel (“On Eagle’s Wings,”  “Amazing Grace” and “How Great thou Art”). Interment is at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian, in the spring. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.
Katherine Suchan was born June 22, 1947, the daughter of Louis and Till (Etteldorf) Suchan in Dubuque. Katherine was a special child. After living most of her adult life in Ossian, she moved to Opportunity Homes in Decorah in 1988, and then became a resident of Wellington Place in 2009. She worked at Spectrum Industries. Katherine loved magazines, music, cats, cutting coupons and doing crafts. Katherine was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian.
Katherine is survived by her four brothers: Gerald (Becky) Suchan, Melbourne; Philip (Krimi) Suchan, Springfield, Mo.; Joe (Mary) Suchan, Robins; and Jim (Mary Jane) Suchan, Cedar Rapids; one brother-in-law, Mike Ronan, Minneapolis, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Till (Etteldorf) Suchan; one brother, Eugene Suchan; one sister, Marilyn Ronan.
