Jean Ann (Giblin) Barnes, 74, of Ossian, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, with a visitation two hours before Mass time at the church Saturday. Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes was the celebrant. Burial was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Parnell. Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, helped the family with the arrangements.
She was born June 23, 1939, to Francis and Bernice (VanAuken) Giblin in Oelwein. Jean attended DeSales School, Ossian, grades 1 thru 11 and graduated from Garrison High School, Garrison.  Jean graduated from Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids in 1957. Jean was united in marriage with Dean Barnes Sept. 6, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Two children were born of this marriage, Brenda Jean and Bradley Dean.
Jean is survived by her children, Brenda (David) Johnson of Ossian and Bradley (Diane) Barnes of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren: Nichole (Robert) Datzman of Carver, Minn., Noelle Johnson of Urbandale and Danielle (Edward) Wadsworth of Edgewood; and two great-grandchildren, Remington and Gunnar Wadsworth; and a third great-grandchild, Baby Datzman, on the way.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 2005; her parents; grandparents; and a brother, Michael, in infancy.
