Harper Schechinger, 15 months, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral Mass for Harper was celebrated Saturday, March 23, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Father Edward Girres officiating. Burial was at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Harper Rae Schechinger was born Dec. 14, 2011, in Des Moines, the daughter of Keith and Dawn (Riehle) Schechinger. She grew up in Algona with her parents and her older sister, Riley. She was a very happy, smiley baby and liked to be around her sister. Despite the health problems she has battled since birth she always seemed to be in a good mood. Harper endured many visits to the hospital, but always seemed to come out giggling.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Keith and Dawn Schechinger of Algona; sister, Riley Schechinger; maternal grandparents, David and Kathy Riehle of Spillville; paternal grandparents, Randy Schechinger and Sharon Thelen of Manilla and Laurie Nelson of Vail. Also surviving are great-grandparents, Phyllis Mashek of Spillville; Paul and Sharon Jirak of Calmar; Grace Schechinger of Manilla; Ruth McClelland of Manilla; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements were handled by Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Condolences may be left at oakcrestfuneralservices.com.
