Ed was born Jan. 16, 1930, to William and Anna (Dieterich) Wenthe in Sumner. Ed attended Hawkeye High School and graduated in 1948. He was united in marriage to his “sweetheart” Arlene Matt Nov. 11, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. The couple moved to a farm in rural Ossian. Edward loved farming and took great pride in caring for his land and livestock. When he retired from milking, woodworking became his leisure activity and he built several kitchen cupboards and pieces of furniture for his home and the homes of his family and friends. Ed believed “giving of yourself is your greatest gift.” He lived those words everyday through his volunteer work and philanthropy. Ed was an active member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, was a board member of the Lutheran Credit Union, served as a trustee for the Tri-County Fire Department and was a board member for Habitat for Humanity. Throughout his life he was known for his hard work, sense of humor, devotion to his wife and his love for his family. He will be remembered for being a man of strong convictions and steadfast faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
