“The Freeport Trail needs your support to help win $7,500 from Wellmark BlueCross BlueShield,” according to Lily Jensen, Winneshiek County Conservation Board.
Wellmark is celebrating its 75th anniversary by giving $7,500 to 10 projects that improve the health and wellness of a community by improving that community’s built environment. The public will help decide which projects are funded by voting for those they want to see happen.
Voting begins Wednesday, Aug. 20, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 7.
Participants may vote once per day, per computer ISP address. Access the voting platform at wellmark75.com/, through the Trails from Freeport Facebook page or through winneshiekwild.com.
A $7,500 award from Wellmark will help Trails from Freeport reach its fundraising goal to match a $1.6 million Federal TIGER grant that has also been awarded to help construct the Freeport Trail and improve several commuter roadways in Freeport.
A second round of bid letting for construction of the trail will take place in October. Depending on weather, construction could begin yet this fall, with the trail open for use by Fall of 2015.
