Steve Haluska, brother of Decorah Community Schools Superintendent Mike Haluska, will be the next principal of St. Benedict School.
Decorah Newspapers has learned Haluska has verbally accepted the position and may start as soon as July 1.
Haluska, of Carroll, most recently served as high school principal for Carroll Community Schools.
Haluska served the District for 19 years, first as a driver’s education teacher and then as principal. He coached girls and boys cross country, junior-varsity basketball and middle school track during his tenure.
A story in Carroll’s Daily Times Herald last August, when Haluska resigned his position prior to the start of the school year, said, “A significant part of Haluska’s legacy in the District is Carroll High School’s 2012 recognition as a Blue Ribbon School, as well as his work with leaders of Des Moines Area Community College to provide more opportunities for high school students to receive college credit.”
