Nordic Dancers fundraiser at Culver's July 2

The Senior Nordic Dancers will host a fundraiser at Culver's Wednesday, July 2, from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
In preparation of the celebration of the Nordic Dancers 50th Anniversary in 2016, the Senior Nordic Dancers and orchestra would like to continue their tradition of being ambassadors for their community of Decorah by traveling to Norway. They will learn and experience the heritage they have brought to life for so many Nordic Fest spectators and other groups over the past 50 years.
Culver's will donate a portion of the proceeds from the July 2 fundraiser to the Nordic Dancers.
The fundraiser will include live music by the Nordic Dancer orchestra at 6 - 6:30 pm. The Senior Nordic Dancers will be greeters and servers at this event. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Nordic Dancer T-shirts, orchestra CDs, flower head wreaths and Viking helmets.
The Nordic Dancers were founded in 1966. The group was created to dance at Decorah's annual summer festival, Nordic Fest, which celebrates the region’s Scandinavian heritage. Each year, the dancers entertain and delight thousands of visitors during Nordic Fest bringing traditional folk dances of Norway to life.
The Nordic Dancers have also danced all over the United States including Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington DC, Disney World, Door County (Wis.), Mason City, Des Moines, Colorado, California and in the country of Norway. The Nordic Dancers are accompanied by a live orchestra when they perform the over 30 traditional Norwegian dances they learn in their 10 years of dancing together. The costumes they wear resemble that of traditional Norwegian dress.
The Nordic Dancers consist of two groups, the Junior Nordic Dancers and the Senior Nordic Dancers. Every five years, the Junior Nordic Dancers become Senior Nordic Dancers and third graders audition to become the next Junior Nordic Dancers.
The current Senior Nordic Dancers began dancing together five years ago as third graders and are entering ninth grade this fall. The group consists of 16 boys and 16 girls. There are nine orchestra members. The directors are Jim and Ann Kephart and Dwayne and Lisa Lundtvedt. The Nordic Dancer orchestra is directed by Jennifer Larsen. The Junior Dancers are directed by David and Jeni Grouws and Amy and Beth Bruening.
"I hope to see everyone come out to Culver's on July 2 to support the Nordic Dancers for this great cause," said Dwayne Lundtvedt.
