Aidan Deen-Lester, 16, Decorah, was charged with second-offense possession of tobacco by a person under the legal age after the Decorah Police Department and Decorah Fire Department responded to a truck fire Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters, police officers and a Winneshiek County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the fire on First Street, near the intersection with Decorah Avenue, at about 2 p.m. The fire was in the seat cushion of the front seat of the truck owned by Russell Drenth of Decorah and was quickly extinguished. A pack of cigarettes was found in the area of the blaze.
After the Decorah Police Department investigated, Deen-Lester was charged. The cause of the fire was determined to be a “carelessly discarded match."
