The owners of a local coffee shop are expanding their business in a new location.
Rod and Kathleen Ritner, owners of the Magpie Coffeehouse, recently purchased Back Home Bakery from Jim Juve, who has owned the business for the past six years.
Kathleen Ritner said they plan to move the Magpie to the Bakery and expand their business and their name to Magpie Coffehouse and Bakery.
“We didn’t have enough space here and the bakery has a huge commercial kitchen in the basement,” she said.
Ritner said in addition to offering the Magpie’s current selection, the restaurant will offer a full line of donuts and bakery items. The Ritners also plan to expand the business’s catering operations.
Ritner said work has already started on the building, and the original tin ceiling has been exposed.
“It’s a bigger space and we’re really happy about that,” she said.
Ritner noted the Magpie is now open earlier, starting at 6 a.m., to accommodate a large coffee group that frequented the old Back Home Bakery. Because of the change in ownership, the bakery is currently closed until the remodeled establishment is inspected.
The new establishment will be called the Magpie Bakery and Coffeehouse.
“We hope to open by sometime this fall,” she said.
