The Winneshiek County Recycling Department will host its “largest cleanup ever” Saturday, April 26, at Winneshiek County Recycling in Freeport.
Household hazardous waste items will be accepted from 9 a.m. -noon. Document destruction will take place from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and appliances and electronics will be accepted from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Recycling Coordinator Terry Buenzow said each year the public puts in requests to take additional items. He added the cleanup also is a way for the public to be able to drop off hazardous materials without making an appointment.
“This may create a traffic jam, but those occur on a regular basis here anyway, so we’ll deal with it,” said Buenzow.
The Recycling Center also will have a shredder set up all day. The Iowa Senior Medicare Patrol will assist with the shredding.
There is a $10 per-unit fee for regulated appliances and $20 for tube-type TVs and computer monitors. Fees can be pre-paid at Decorah City Hall or at the Recycling Center the day of the clean-up.

All other appliances and electronics will be accepted at no charge.
