The Nordic Fest Board has announced the grand marshal and flag recipient for the 48th annual Fest.
Decorah Artist Carl Homstad will be this year’s grand marshal, and Marcia Fox will be the flag recipient.
According to Nordic Fest Board President Randy Schissel, Homstad was chosen to acknowledge his longtime involvement in the Fest, through his participation in Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum events, as well as willingness to give back to the community through his artistry.
Homstad said he was happy to hear he was selected as this year’s grand marshal for the Nordic Fest Parade.
“It is a great honor for me personally and, I believe, a recognition of the importance of art and culture in a community,” said Homstad.
Flag recipient Marcia Fox is a retired teacher and Lake Mills native who moved to Decorah 40 years ago.
She was chosen in honor of her many years of involvement in the Fest, beginning with her participation as an exhibitor selling hand-knit items in 1983.
Fox worked with the Fest craft show for about 25 years. She joined the Board in 2000 and served for 14 years helping with the arts and crafts and antiques exhibitors.
She said she is “very humbled” by the honor.
