The Decorah Community School District invites the public to the grand opening of the newly renovated Carrie Lee Auditorium Wednesday, April 9, from 5-7 p.m.
The opening will feature a self-guided tour of the auditorium's historic Art Deco features as well as a light appetizer buffet catered by DHS VIking Cafe.
The renovation included restoration of the original Art Deco features of the space, in addition to adding more period embellishments. The theater will provide a smaller, more intimate setting for both school and community performances.
After Carrie Lee was built as a high school in 1922, the auditorium at Carrie Lee was enlarged with an addition in 1935. The school later served as a junior high and middle school before becoming Carrie Lee Elementary, a third- and fourth-grade facility in 2008.
