Josiah Casterton, 21, Calmar, was charged with failure to maintain control in connection with a Sunday morning accident that left his pickup truck submerged in Trout Run stream and law enforcement trying to determine his whereabouts.

Winneshiek County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the accident scene off Trout Run Road at about 7:50 a.m. Sunday. Officers found the partially submerged pickup truck but they, along with firefighters and emergency medical services personnel, could not locate the driver or any passengers.

Casterton went to the Decorah Law Enforcement Center Sunday afternoon and reported the accident. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the 2006 Ford Casterton was driving was totaled. The accident occurred at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Decorah Fire Department, Decorah Police Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Winneshiek County Ambulance Service and First Responders.

DNR officials were notified because fluids from Casterton’s truck leaked into the trout stream.
