The Decorah City Council is reminding property owners of their responsibility to trim boulevard trees.
Trees need to maintain a minimum 14-foot clearance above streets/alleys and 8 feet above sidewalks.
Ornamental plantings/brush cannot encroach onto the sidewalk area. Particular attention should be paid to alleys since the clearances apply to them as well. Proper clearance is essential to prevent damage to equipment, according to city officials.
To assist property owners in the upkeep of their trees/plantings the Decorah Street Department will chip branches placed on boulevards throughout the week of Monday, Oct. 21- Friday, Oct. 25.
The Council is urging property owners to take advantage of this opportunity. City officials said they appreciate the public's cooperation in maintaining boulevards and alley right of ways.
For more information, call the Street Department, 382-2157, or Drew Stevenson, city forester, 382-3810 or 380-1124.
Decorah residents can deposit their leaves in the leaf bin at the Decorah Street Department, Railroad Ave., now through Friday, Nov. 15.
