The Decorah School Board approved a number of new hires at its meeting Monday evening.
Malinda Schwade, middle school level 3 special education teacher, was hired at a salary of $31,863; Jessica (Sullivan) Uhlenake, Carrie Lee instructional strategist, $31,863; Shannon Quandahl, ninth grade volleyball coach, $3,112; Patricia Billiet, seventh grade volleyball co-coach, $1,131.50; Lori Burras, seventh grade volleyball co-coach, $1,131.50; Brigit Storhoff, temporary middle school cross country coach, $792; Hailey Vrzak, special education associate and eighth-grade volleyball coach, $13,833 plus $1,613; Tara Courtney, special education associate, $13,833; Brittany Krueger, special education associate, $14,146; Lori Lechtenberg, special education associate, $15,023; Melissa Schlarmann, special education associate, $13,833; Darcy Smalley, special education associate, $13,833; Brooke Underbakke Telsrow, special education associate, $14,021; Audrey Fadness, part-time associate, $7,987; Wanda Lillegraven, part-time associate, $7,302 and William Post, varsity football coach, $5,375.
In a related matter, the Board accepted the resignations of Tracy Meirick, special education associate; David Keller, varsity boys’ soccer coach; Andrew Tjossem, temporary large group speech; Darcy Huinker, special education associate; and Afton Fisk, John Cline special education teacher.
In other matters, the Board heard from Buildings and Grounds Manager Greg Schaller that the punch list for the high school is completed.
Schaller and Maintenance Technician Kerry Glock will be trained by Casper Plumbing and Heating on the controls of the HVAC system. The entire project came in under budget and ahead of schedule. District Business Manager Cathy Dietzenbach is preparing a document to outline the total cost of the renovation project.
Finally, the Board approved a bread bid from Pan-O-Gold Baking Company of St. Cloud, Minn. and a milk bid from Anderson Erickson of Des Moines.
