The Decorah Fire Department’s second annual “Bucket of Color in Your Face Fun Run is Saturday, May 3.
The event will start at 11 a.m. from the Danan Lansing Building on the Winneshiek County fairgrounds.
The 5K walk/run is not timed and is meant to be fun; where everybody is a winner, according to DFD organizers. The route will follow along the Upper Iowa River and Trout Run Trail. During the run, there will be volunteers stationed at each kilometer to shower participants with color.
“The Holi color that we use is also used in India as a symbol of spring. We all know how badly we want that after a long winter, so come celebrate spring with the DFD,” said Mike Bockman, Decorah volunteer fireman and fundraising committee member.
Pre-registered entries will be guaranteed a T-shirt and a bag of color to shower friends. Register with friends or family and create a team.
Registrants can register on-line at, or pick up registration forms at the Fire Department, Decorah Parks and Rec. Office, T-Bock’s Sports Bar or Kephart’s Music. Advanced Registration is $25 for ages 15-up, $12 for ages 6-14, and 5-Under free. Race day registration starts at 9 a.m., with entry fees being $30 and $15 respectively. Race will start at 11 a.m.
“Last year was a huge success and the Fire Department is looking forward to this year. The funds will be used to support the purchase of equipment needed to keep our firefighters safe and help assure they come home after a call. The Department wants to thank the community so much for being there for them. There are always here for you,” said Bockman. “The idea of the run is to incorporate all the firefighters together with the community, to say ‘thank you’ for all the support the community gives the Department.”
