The Winneshiek County Historical Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013.
The milestone will be observed with four community celebrations throughout next year with a focus on important facets of Winneshiek County. They are: The railroad, the Civil War, one-room country schools, and immigration and migration.
To mark the anniversary, the Historical Society is initiating a "$50 for 50" campaign which will fund a $10,000 Winneshiek County Historical Society Endowment with the Winneshiek County Community Foundation.
An endowment provides an annual income which is generated by the interest calculated on the amount in the endowment fund. This endowment will ensure the future stability of the Historical Society.
The Historical Society will be accepting contributions to this fund from its members and the general public. Donations in any amount may be sent to: Winneshiek County Historical Society Endowment, P.O. Box 63, Decorah, Iowa
