The doors of the historic Highlandville schoolhouse open for a spring dance Saturday, May 3.

The Western Home String Band warms up the floorboards with hard-driving fiddle tunes and Bill Deutsch will lead revelers through lively contra and circle dances.

Basic walking dance moves will be taught at 7:30 p.m. and the dance begins at 8. Admission is $7, with kids 12 and under admitted free. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing. All the dances are taught, no partners are necessary and beginners are welcome.

The Western Home String Band features experienced players and those who are learning the style. Participants will dance to fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo, Irish drum and other acoustic instruments playing reels, jigs and a few waltzes.
