Seed Savers Exchange will host a free Tomato Tasting Saturday, Aug. 30, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Lillian Goldman Visitors Center.
This popular tomato celebration attracts hundreds of tomato enthusiasts from around the region and beyond to sample dozens of rare tomato varieties and learn to save and share their seeds.
The Cherry Roma was voted best-tasting tomato last year,” said Steve Carlson, Seed Savers Exchange communications coordinator.
“Join the fun in deciding the champion for 2014.”
A large number of tomato varieties in all colors and sizes will be available, including yellow cherry tomatoes, pink beefsteaks, striped stuffing tomatoes, red grape tomatoes and whatever is ripe.
Oneota Food Co-op in Decorah will again sponsor the salsa contest.
Also planned for the day are two workshops at 1 and 3 p.m. instructing how to grow and save true-to-type tomatoes; live music from local musician Lew Klimesh; hayrides through the Twin Valleys at Heritage Farm and tacos available from the Taqualicious taco truck.
This event is free but donations are encouraged. Find more information at
